"Life`s Summer Session"

8/13/02 For nearly three months, I`ve remained in the bubble-like confines of Baylor summer school. Nearing the end of the collegiate learning curve, I almost feel battered and bruised from the hard dose of reality that is inevitably setting into the mind of this twenty-one year old. Everyday, I wake up, choosing to go to my 1.5 hours of class. I`m not home for more than five minutes when I start to feel the boredom and the lack of productivity weighing me down.
In a summer when James finally gave up Counterstrike for MCATs, and Chris` increased interest in Biochemistry, my life started to feel a bit more petty, a bit more unimportant, a bit more unsophisticated. Rather than losing myself in overwhelming apathy, I tried to concentrate on my field of major. These are things that should really add versatility in the skills that I will be taking with me to the workforce. So I had a little project, here and there, most of which amounted to nothing but time-killers. I revamped the YMB Homepage, wrotea few uninspiring entries, and even made it a habit to assume the house-wife role while Chris was at work.
When I return home to Houston tomorrow, my parents will be asking mewhat I learned in the two classes I have beentaking.Naturally, I`llspill out some Managerial Accounting and Marketing jargonthat I wouldn`t really expect them to understand. I know that I`ve taken great strides in preparing myself for the real worldthis summer, and my parents will probablybe more concerned with that then anything else. Academically,I`m not really worried about my `C` average. I`m not too discouraged by the weak economy or the difficulty in attaining a well-paid job. I know, in my heart, that I can make it without having to rely on my parents.
So now, to the focusof what I really learned this summer...
1) I learned that my future is in Advertisement/Marketing. I`ve always told people this, but my summer classes has confirmed this belief. I often tell people I`m a first class underachiever. I prettymuch made it this far on my creativity alone; a facet that is uniquely required in the field of Marketing. If Chris is the epitome of a Left-Brained juggernaut, then I am the Right-Brained extraordinaire. At least that`s what I`ll be telling myself until I hit unemployment...
2) I learned that the friends you make in high school doesn`t amount to much (in most cases), whereas the friends you make in college lasts a lifetime. Sandra once told me this when I doubted her loyalty, but I wasn`t convinced until my dad told me the same thing. Its quite reassuring to know that I can count on these very same friend for future advices, girl problems, work-related stress relief, and/or a fun night out in the town. My needs are one thing, my comfort is another.
3) Quit worrying. I`m too smart to fail my classes. I`m too responsible to not make a steady income. I`m too good-looking to die a single man.

Okay, so it wasn`t the most productivesummer in the world. But college is perhaps 1/20 of your whole life, and I`d be damn stupid if I let it go without somekind of fun. A flashback, if you will:
2-on-1 wrestling with girls, damaging Chris` TV, Bar-hopping on 6thStreet, Grahams night andthe drunken mess afterwards, Shane`s cookies, Poonam calling me out, Lori`s absence and her amazing return, visiting Allen in Dallas, mad birthdays, hunting for bud in dry-@ss Waco, fighting with Sandra and making up again (x 20), FIFA WorldCup Soccer, Eugene`s newbong, party at the Sigma House, dealing with $hit talkers, visiting Long View, the failed "no week-day" rule, V.C. tournaments, McCormicks and Beer nights, fireworks at Waco Park, laughing at Shane`s picture on the digital camera, Tyson vs. Lewis night, Crickets,down-town Houston, No-hassle credit card commercial ("ai-yai-yai"), the great Smash Bros bouts, popin` the melatonin, stealing Johnny`s Z`s, the great 4th of July celebration, Bobo`s homecoming, "that ain`t Skyy nor Crown" night, going to Kileen, Lori finally snapping, YMB photo shoot, Chris` "I know!" and "ForREALS", downloading DBZ movies, taking Creatine and going crazy, a beetle in my shirt, Big Tae`s graduation dinner, the @ss hole that hit Tina`s car, catching crickets atCasa Linda, Lori not charging up her new phone all the way, that awkward Happy Birthday song, watching the turtle swim in the big tank, AIM clone, Sandra wreaking havoc after drinking, Spaghetti Sundays, YMB Homepage, and countless more...
