"The Dreamer Within"

12/20/01 1:34am I often have to ask myself how old I really am. "The Big 21" is coming up in less than a month, but I often find myself enjoying things geared towards children. For example, I was in love with Pokemon for the longest time. I watched the television show, and even found myself going to see the movies (at the theater - yes, that¡¯s sad). When I volunteered to help after-school children at a local middle school, they were all impressed at how knowledgeable I was in the field of Pokemon.
As one craze started to die off, it was soon replaced by the next - Harry Potter. My fascination with Harry Potter began exactly a year ago, when my sister bought me the first book in the Harry Potter series. I only resorted to it when I needed some reading material in the bathroom, but I eventually started to get wrapped up in the book. The movie came out last month, and now I`m caught reading the next installments of the Harry Potter series. This brings me to the topic of today`s entry. I am a child at heart. It doesn`t necessarily mean that I am childish; simply that I can appreciate a wide variety of subjects. In any given night, I`ll flip through the television, going from Friends - to Gargoyles - to Sportscenter - and finally to the evening news. I am versatile, and I believe that versatility is an important aspect in my career. However, I can`t exactly put on my resume, "I love pokemon, read all the Harry Potter books, etc."
I couldn`t always admit that I was a fan of these things. Adolescence can put you through some awkward times, and Iwas often ashamed of my childish interests. But one thing that my mom told me last year was this: "Jun wa yume o motta ningen da," which translates to, "you are a dreamer." Its interesting how that`s what www.thespark.com labeled my personality as...
I have decided to embrace the fact that I am a dreamer at heart. Not everyone can fully understand the world that I live in, but its fun trying to explain it. Furthermore, I should never back down from doing what I love, whether its reading Harry Potter or taking a `Swisher Shot` (don`t ask me what that means...). In the end, it will help me find the things that 1) I`ll be good at, 2) I`ll be making lots of money off of, and 3) I`ll be happy doing for the rest of my life.
