For you have to have a succesful web site, here are some tips.
General Stuff
Make sure the colors match together. Also if you have graphics, make sure they match too.
Don't add too many scripts which make your page load slow, people hate that.
Give people a reason to come back to your site. Some people just have websites with shoutouts and stuff. Put content that you make and stuff.
Update often. Your visitors will like that and probably will come back.
Add a guestbook so your visitors can post their comments about your page. You can get a guestbook at places like Alxnet.com or Signmyguestbook.com.
Subpages
Be creative with your subpages. I mean a lot of sites have the same boring stuff.
Don't have things like "DON'T CLICK HERE".
If you do take something from someone else, link them.
To get Traffic
Join link exchanges (where you put other peoples websites on your site and they put yours on their website).
Sign many peoples guestbook. You don't know how much that helps. But DON'T use copy and paste messages because people get really annoyed by that and chances are that what you write isn't true for all sites. Be nice and compliment on the things you liked about that homepage.
Try to add your site to as many search engines as you possibly can. You can do this for free at many places, Addme.com is one of them.
Be sure to add meta tags to each of your pages. Search engines can find your website when you use meta tags. You can generate some yourself at certain web sites.
Put a counter somewhere on your site so you can see how many hits your making. A good counter you can use is from Bravenet.com.
Join topsites. It's a good way of getting hits. You put a link on your site and when people click on it to go to the topsite your site gets more points and goes up on the list. You can join the Yasonline Topsite.
