47' WOODEN CUTTER - 'YANISKA'

yaniska

Although Guy Thompson designed Yaniska for the present owners 23 years ago, with a long fin keel and skeg mounted rudder she is remarkably similar in concept to what is now generally accepted as the ideal ocean cruiser yacht, such as the Warrior 40. She is rigged as a cutter with a roller furling jib, and lazy-jacks for the main, as well as a boom crutch which is a great aid to short-handed reefing. She also has a permanently mounted stern ladder.

Yaniska was used in Europe before June 1998, so is not subject to the EU Craft Directive. We have proof of this on board, in the form of a receipt for transit of the Corinth Canal in August 1986. The present owners can import Yaniska into the UK when they resume residence. VAT has not been paid.

Yaniska is lying at Marina Hramina, Murter Island, Croatia. Murter is a major site of wooden boat building where many wooden ships up to 25 metres are still being built and larger ones refitted. There are four travel-lifts and two marinas in the town so if a purchaser wanted any work undertaken this would be the place to have it done.

GENERAL

Designed for the present owners who lofted and supervised her building, she is a live-aboard ocean cruising yacht ideal for two-handed sailing with comfortable accommodation for two couples and additional family members. The hull was built in Malaysia at the fishing port of Mersing and was then motored the 150 miles to Singapore where she was completed. After 4 years of cruising and racing out of Singapore the owners retired and in 1982 sailed her to the Mediterranean. They have lived aboard for most of the year ever since, replacing. improving and maintaining as required. She is easily driven and a joy to sail. Crossing the Indian Ocean from Malaya to Galle in Sri Lanka in the NE monsoon winds using the tow generator for power she averaged 166 sea miles per day.
