The Battle Lost

Once, in a time long past, in a far and distant place,
You kissed the palm of my hand as my fingers caressed your face.

Slowly, as our eyes met, I caught sight of unearthly bliss
You touched my soul with a smile, stole my heart with but a kiss.

In the air swirled a certain magic on that moonless summer night,
When the Warrior and Warrioress forgot about the fight.

The moment we saw each other, who we had been and were to be,
We knew we belonged together, yet that path we did not see...

Sadly the path that lay ahead foretold a story of great loss.
We were Warriors of opposing cause, our paths always destined to cross.

We parted on that eve, both with a burdened heart,
For the battle was to be long and hard and this was but the start...

As was seen on that first night, we met and fought to the death,
Many times watching in agony as the other took their last breath...

Many centuries since past, many long held secrets to keep.
Many battles have been won, yet lost, even Warriors must weep.

Time has strengthened your spirit, Passion has strengthened mine,
Still we long for those few precious moments when our bodies and souls intertwine.

The great battle still rages on, but the cause has been slowly distorted,
And we begin to question the fight as well as the lives we've led,

Yet we stand this field once more to sing this Warriors song,
Sacred honor stands along the path to show us where we belong,

But this last time, I bestow upon thee the gift of open sight.
What you shall see is a timeless love slowly destroyed by the fight.

You made that choice so long ago, to never take that fall.
You gave up love, you gave up life, and now you've lost it all...

When my blood stains the earth this day you shall finally see the cost,
You began this battle with a noble cause, yet it was you, in the end, who lost.
