SHIPS LOG

(Newsletter for 83' Sailors)

Welcome aboard for this issue of the 83' Sailors newsletter. As I write this edition we are nearing the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings. This particular action probably gave the 83 foot boats of Rescue Flotilla 1 and the men who served on them their finest hour. I would like to dedicate this issue of the Ship’s Log to those 83 veterans who survive as well as all the combat veterans of the U.S. Coast Guard.

NOSTALGIA:

As is my habit I wanted to run an article on the Normandy landing for the anniversary of that event. The following is an article sent to me by Ralph Gallant ENCS, USCG (ret.) who was in the navy at the time of the invasion and participated aboard an LST. This article is reprinted from a U.S. Naval Institute publication.
