Don Adams

Don Adams

Born Donald James Yarmy, of Irish-Hungarian heritage. Don Adams served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. During the Guadalcanal campaign he was the only survivor of his platoon. He contracted blackwater fever and nearly died. He was hospitlaized for nearly a year. After his recovery he served as a drill instructor.

Following the war he embarked on a career as a stand-up comedian and an impressionist, appearing in small clubs in Florida and Washington DC. He married Adelaide Adams and took her last name as his own stage name. Adams is best known for his character Maxwell Smart in the 1960's TV show "Get Smart".
