James Butler Hickok: 1) Clara Enright might have been a childhood sweetheart, but that is something the writer decided not to let us know in "Matched Pair". 2) Emma was the first to stir up feelings in the young James Butler Hickock, but as we all know it was not to be. This takes place in the episode "End Of Innocence". 3) Sarah Downs - a young woman Jimmy meets by accidents and falls in love with. However, she is married and the affair almost ends in Jimmy's death by hanging. The episode is "Blind love". 4) A brief attraction to a prostitute by the name of Amy at a brothel leads to some advising words from Teaspoon in "Fall from Grace". 5) Alice, a young woman of the of a sect called the Peacemakers gets Jimmy to think about taking off his gun. His reputation and an old enemy causes trouble and a heartbroken Jimmy leaves. All this in "Peacemakers". 6) It's obvious that Jimmy secretly admires and cares for Lou. The proof is in "The Blood of Others" and in numerous fan fiction stories! 7) Rosemary Burke - the woman married to a notorious abolitionist steals Jimmy's heart in "Song of Isiah". She reappears in the last episodes, and when she is widowed, she turns to Jimmy for comfort. How it ends we're not allowed to know...
William F Cody: Cody, being naturally flirtatious, is definitely attracted to 1) Amanda O'Connell, but easily gives up his courting as Ike shows interest in Amanda. Episode: "The Keepsake". 2) Cody is briefly infatuated in a young actress, Jenny St. Clair, before his love of acting places her in the background in "The Play's The Thing". 3) Maria, a young widow at the Mexican Mission where an old friend of Teaspoon is trying to make stand against a gang of thieves. However the young girl is acting for the gang, all in "The Talisman". 4) Elizabeth Dooley, a young woman considering to become a nun gets Cody's attention on his way to St. Jo with a tiger. However, Elizabeth decides to stay with the nuns in order to create an orphanage. "Tiger's Tale". 5) What's seems to be Cody's first real love appears in "Survivors". She's a widow with a young son and her name is Julia Tobin. However, her late husband's associate's activities forces her to leave Rock Creek and a heartbroken Cody.
Buck Cross: 1) The girl he was once to be married to shows up in "Dark Brother", and although she's is engaged, Buck claims he still loves her. She grew up in the Kiowa village under the name Little Bird, but her 'real' name is Camille. She remains with her husband-to-be after helping Buck to forgive himself for not being able to stop her abduction from the Kiowa village. 2) The daughter of the new banker, Kathleen Devlin, gets Buck's heart and leaves him heartbroken in "Daddy's Girl". 3) Buck is clearly in love with Tompkins daughter Jennifer (Eagle Feather), who has returned to Sweetwater after seven years of captivity with the Sioux. Trying to cope with the death of her mother and a life among in the white world again, she chooses to leave Sweetwater.
Ike McSwain: 1) Ike is clearly interested in Amanda O'Connell, which at first takes him on a collision course with Cody in "The Keepsake". 2) Ike is ready to get married when he meets Annie Lawler, a mail-order bride that has apparently lost her fiancée in an accident. However, just before Ike is about to propose, the fiancée appears in "Gathering Clouds, part 2". 3) Ike loses his life when trying to save the love of his life, Emily Metcalfe, in "In The Presence Of Mine Enemies".
The Kid: 1) From the first episode, we knew that Lou would be one true love in Kid's life. She is also the woman he marryies in the series finale. But for a while they were separated... 2) Doritha, an childhood sweetheart shows up in "Just Like Old Times". 3) Samantha, the new schoolteacher, catches Kid's heart close after his breakup with Lou. Can we say rebound? However, Samantha brings along her own complications: her mother is on the run from a Southern slave owner, a former flame of both mother and daugther. This same man turns out to be Samantha's father.
Noah Dixon: 1) Cassie Ellis, a young girl with a terrible past, gets the love of Noah Dixon. The episode is sort of unfinished, as Cassie neither dies nor disappears. When "Between Rock Creek And A Hard Place" ends, Noah is walking down the main street with his arm around Cassie.
Aloysius 'Teaspoon' Hunter: 1) Well, Teaspoon claims to have approximately six wives (at first it is five), and the name of one of them was Polly. 2) Dolores, a Mexican woman that owns a saloon not far from Alamo. 3) Beatrice, the mother of his only daughter, Elizabeth.
Jesse James: 1) Lou appears to be Jesse's first real crush, but she competes with 2) Mary Ellen.
Lou McLoud: 1) Lou mentions a childhood sweethart named Bobby, but no other details are known (except in fan fiction). 2) Lou's first and last love is Kid. 3) She has a brief attraction to Jimmy, but ultimately chooses Kid. 4) Lou definitely enjoyed her dinner with Tyler Dewitt, although he later turns out to be the head of a gang of bandits. If nothing else, she manage to get Kid pretty jealous in "Lady For a Night". 4) Lou had an admirer in young Adrian Dawkins, who dies to save Lou and the Kid in "The Sacrifice". 5) Another admirer is, of course, Jesse, who sends her anonymous love letters. Lou thinks they are from Kid.
