The 1997 CFFL San Francisco 49ers
Notes From the Owners:
1997 was the year of expansion for our league.  The CFFL grew from ten teams to fourteen.  In 1997 the CFFL 49ers welcomed David Miller, my brother, to the front office.  With his great insight and his extensive football background, our team will continue to strive for the best.  As David and I look back on the '97 season we will always remember the disappointing draft that we had.  David was on vaction while the draft occured.  With this conspiring our team lacked the knoweledge that I had hoped for for the draft.  When the draft occured I made vital mistakes.  First I drafted a kicker with our first pick, which was a horrible decision.  I looked to much into pre-season, drafting players that would never fill starting roles.  On a positive note we made a productive trade with the Bears(Andy Dunn), trading away our '96 1st All-Star tight end, Shannon Sharpe,  and one of our disappointing keepers, Marshall Faulk.  In this trade we acquired a very promissing running back, and a owners favorite, Warrick Dunn.  We also made a trade at the conclusion of the year with the Buccaneers(Ed Meyer).  This trade was made to inforce the productivity of our '98 keepers.  We traded away our 2nd round pick(6th player selection), for an up and coming star(hopefully), Adrian Murrell.  The team also received an All-Star wide receiver Carl Pickens.  Eventhough we had a very unproductive year in the standings, hopefully we imporved our roster for 98'.

The 1997 CFFL 49er's MVP
The 1997 49er's CFFL team MVP was the San Francisco's Team Defense.  Eventhough the season was a disappointment and unproductive, the 49er's defense was just the opposite.  In '97 the defense was selected to the CFFL 1st All-Star Team.  The defense racked up a total of 337 points, finishing 1st amoung all defenses in the league.  The slim number of games won by the CFFL 49er's was decided by the defense.

Once again Congratulations to the San Francisco's Defense for being selected for the 1997 CFFL 49er's Team MVP!!!!
