Barcelona are poised to renew their bid to sign Chelsea striker
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
The Catalan giants are reportedly prepared to offer Hasselbaink
a salary of $2.1m per year for the next 18 months - plus
lucrative bonuses.
Barcelona will now attempt to strike a deal with Chelsea before
the transfer window closes at the end of January.
Chelsea placed an $8.1m valuation on the player, while Barcelona
have made an offer of $5m.
But further negotiations could bring the two clubs to an
agreement.
"No one is confirming anything yet, but it appears that a deal
is becoming more and more likely," Bibian Weggelaar, a reporter
with Barcelona's El 9 paper, told BBC Sport Online.
Manager Louis van Gaal has been desperate to bring in a striker
to give stronger competition to Patrick Kluivert.
Although he was the club's top scorer with 22 goals last season,
Van Gaal believes the Dutch international has suffered a dip in
form. |
