He pulled at the belt she had wrapped around her dress. "I want you!"
His breath warm and hot against her neck.

Maureen's eyes lowered, her skin flushed.  "You know how this will complicate things."  She wanted to touch him, but drew her hands away.

"I want what I want."   Bill unbuttoned her blouse.  He pulled on the silk material until it fell from her shoulders.  "This is what I want."  He pointed at her.  His fingers stopping above the curves of her breast.  The phone ringing in the bedroom made her flinch.  "Don't answer that."

She glared meanly at him.  "I have to answer it!"

"I didn't bring you here to Newport, Rhode Island to have you answering phones."
He yanked her arm pulling her back.

"Pardon me?"  Not quite believing what just came out of his mouth.
"I brought myself to RI.  Excuse me, but I decide what happens, not you!"  She began to grind her teeth, but he kept a firm hold on her wrist.  He pulled at the dainty lace strap of her bra.

"Bill."  It was Dan knocking loudly on the door.  He opened the door rushing into the room.  "We have problems.  Sorry."  He lowered his eyes until she was able to adjust her clothing.  He spoke fast, pacing back and forth.  "Real bad news!"

"What are you saying?"  Maureen buttoned the top button of her shirt.
Bill looked over at her chest his skin flushed.   Rubbing his chin in his hand.

"I don't know how to tell you this."  He kept pacing, back and forth, back and forth.  He looked up shaking his head.  "Maureen maybe you had better sit down."

Her lips quivered.  Some vacation.  Beautiful Newport, Rhode Island,
a house right on the beach and she has to sit down for bad news.

"The company has closed.  The whole damn thing.  We're all out of jobs!"

"No!"  Her head moved back forth quickly.  "You're kidding right?"
Her trembling hand went to cover her lips.

"I wish I was kidding.  It closed.  Everything is gone."  He watched as the news registered with Bill.

"What the hell did you just say?"  He glared at him and then went to the
window and pulled back the drapes. "Can we get our records out of the building?  Our contacts?"  He watched as Dan nodded yes.  "Then, you and I and Maureen, beginning now, we will just open our own little company."  His voice deepened and he looked over at her sitting on the edge of the sofa.  He glanced down at her crossed legs and at her pretty clothes and then into her eyes.

"Oh no."  She watched as he nodded.  She ran from the room and onto the beach.

"She'll come around.  We have lots to do!"  Bill bit his lower lip.  They watched her, the two them standing behind the sliding glass door.

Maureen walked along the shoreline in the moonlight.
The owners of the company had been like tyrannical communists running a sweatshop.  Her attempts to be promoted were always thwarted by their degradation.  Her plan was to move on.  Let the authorities take care of them as they wish.   She was quite sure that someone had followed her on the drive to Newport.  When she was employed there they had followed her on her lunch hour and after work hours too.  Who were they connected to and what did they want from her?
