For more information on the application and evaluation processes, continue on to the task and evaluation sections.

Good luck and have fun!

Task

The application process for the editor positions includes the following tasks to be completed independently:

  • review and take a few online quizzes on grammar and mechanics rules
  • print and proofread articles for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and subject-verb agreement using correct proofreading marks
  • enhance an article by replacing average verbs with strong verbs
  • read and revise an article so that the information included in it is focused and on topic.
  • write an article for either the sports, entertainment, or local news section using Microsoft Word

Still interested???  Begin the application process by continuing on to the process section.

Process

To complete the application process, please follow the six steps below.

Step 1:  Review rules for capitalization, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement.  Then take the
            available quizzes.

Step 2:  Print the article, "Welcome to Valle Vista."  Proofread the article for capitalization,
punctuation, and spelling errors.  Mark any errors you find using correct proofreading marks

Step 3:  Read the article, "Third Grade Musical Wows!," and save it to your computer.  In this article,
the subjects are in bold and the verbs are underlined.  If any of the verbs do not agree with
the subjects, please fix them.  Save the article again and print a copy.

Step 4:  Read the article, "Soccer Team Gets Muddy," and save it to your computer.  In this article,
some of the verbs are underlined.  Unfortunately, these verbs are just average.  Replace
them with strong verbs.  Save the article again and print a copy.

Step 5:  Print the article, "Exercise Does a Body Good."  Some of the information in the article is off
topic.  Please revise the article, eliminating any unnecessary or off-topic information.

Step 6:  Decide which area is most interesting to you: sports, entertainment, or local news.  Write
an article that could be printed in that area.  Be sure to include an exciting title to catch the
reader's eye and on-topic information.  Use correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and
strong verbs.  Save a copy of your article on the computer and print a copy.

You have now completed the application process!  Please staple your articles together and submit them to your teacher.

To review how you will be evaluated, continue on to the evaluation section.
