Poppa, the day after we got him, Said, “You are a SparkPlug.” And so he got his name, But it was for following the paper route, he got his fame.

Loving dog oh yes, he was, But was vicious if you bothered me, The two of us delivered papers, we did, Six miles in the morning and ten miles after school.

And when I did leave home, He followed the paper route with The Obenchain boys. And every one knew Old Spark Plug.

The smartest and best dog there ever was, And when he died, The Roanoke newspapers, Did run his picture and obit.
