When I was a small child I tried to pattern my life
after the females in our family.
I failed at this.
As a teenager I tried to pattern my life
after a friend that I admired.
I failed at this.
Then I tried to pattern my life
after a favorite teacher.
I failed at this.
Then a boy came into my life.
We fell in love and got married.
I tried to pattern my life to be like his mother.
I failed at this.
But after raising three children,
who in turn produced five grandchildren,
I realized that a person can only be themselves.
We are all individuals, with our own personalities and traits.
I have learned not to pattern myself after anybody but myself.
I have finally got it right.
