DANCING WITH MIRRORS
The training we receive in youth embeds
within the pliant lining of our cells;
we learn to twirl deceit around the truth
in forms appropriate for show-and-tell.
We hold our posture well; with polished words
and smiles, we swirl illusion's veil, disguise
our inner longings. Deftly, we conceal
With glee, we scrutinize each other's sins
from self-pretentious thrones; our minds are closed
and we forget -- when life disrobes, our own
expanse of nakedness will be exposed.
