Chapter Two

Ashley Bitcher

~Wednesday~

"Hey Eliza!" Amita called smiling at me, from down the hall. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a high ponytail and some loose strands tucked behind her ears. She wore her star shaped earrings and a matching necklace that sparkled as she walked up to me.

"Hey yourself" I replied. "What's up? You look tired. Been talking to Tom all night?" I added accusingly and laughed when all she could do was turn bright red, scowl and laugh. Tom walks by and turns for a brief moment, giving us a glance before quickly walking on, not even saying hi to Amita. I sighed to myself, seeing the sadness that flickered on Amita's face. I really don't know how she can stand Tom.

He was insensitive, and such a jerk. Poor Amita was already wrapped up in his finger. All she would do was make up excuses for him, saying he had a sore throat, a cold, stomach ache, or someone in his family was ill. I keep telling her that if he had that many health problems, he'd be dead. But she just shook her head and changes the subject. I can't think of any good qualities that Tom has other than his looks. But I can do nothing until Amita finally crawls out of her fantasy and realize the truth.

"So did you figure out what you're going to wear yet?" Amita asked as if nothing happened, quickly changing the subject and being happy as usual. She hid herself behind her sociable mask and I decide to leave her as she wishes.

"No, I'm still stuck on that." I closed my locker and started to walk down the hall." I have to find one before Friday night! But there are so many new styles I don't know which dress to choose! You HAVE to come with me to the mal right after school!"

"Sure! I'm going to find the perfect dress that'll make you look sexy for Greg! Oh God, here come Ashley Bitcher and her group of snobby little dogs." Amita screw up her face wit disgust as a group of older girls walk up to us, sniggering.

"On hi losers. Want to know what's hideous? Look over there." A girl with long blonde hair smirked as she stepped forward. Her tight black t-shirt had bright neon pink letters that said 'Guess what we can do for our fist date' followed by a picture of a bed. She was the most popular girl in school, though most people are just afraid of her, or wanted to be near her to be in the "in" crowd. She was not the friendliest person either. She would talk behind your back, expose your secrets, and make random insults and take stabs at you for no reason.

Whoever she hated, the whole school hated. There was no reason behind it, it was just the law in this school. There was ONE exceptional person who nobody could hate even if it was the law. That was Eliza she was just nice to everyone and everyone felt bad if they treated her anything other than that they would bend the rules for her.

I turned and looked in the direction where Ashley was pointing and saw her reflection in a girl's locker mirror. Amita rolled her eyes and turned back to Ashley.

"I thought there weren't any mirrors left uncracked in the school since you've looked into every one of them. Guess I was wrong though." Amita retorts. "Let's go Eliza. We don't want our compacts to be shattered."

We walked past Ashley who was frozen in place, still trying to think about what Amita's insult meant.

"Don't you think that was a bit harsh? Amz?" I asked as we walked down the grade ten's lockers hallway.

"No. She deserves it. She just one bitch that has a spell over everyone so they'll like her. I can't wait for the day when everyone leaves her." Amz said. "She will have nobody. Absolutely nobody since she treats her friends like crap. I really feel sorry for - OW!"

A blur ran past us and bumped into her.

"I'm so sorry Amz! I've got to go. Bye!" Matt called back and ran down the hall only to meet Ashley.

"I can't believe him." Amz sighed. "He's absolutely hopeless. How can he like Ashley? She's the biggest bitch ever! Let's go find Jessies before first period."
