Paul Levesque is one of the most prized graduates of Killer Kowalski's wrestling school in Reading, Massachusetts. He made his wrestling debut in 1992, and while known as Terra Ryzing, he won the Independent Wrestling Federation (IWF) championship; the organization affiliated with Kowalski's school.

In January of 1994, Terra Ryzing made his way to WCW. His very first televised match took place on WCW Worldwide where he defeated Brian Armstrong, who ironically would become Hunter's DX stablemate The Road Dogg years later. Although a talented young grappler, Terra was stuck in midcard matches against jobbers, and rarely faced any real competition. He once challenged Larry Zbysko for the WCW Television title in May of 1994, but lost the match. Soon Terra Ryzing disappeared from WCW, but Hunter returned using his real name of Jean Paul Levesque. He portrayed a French Canadian "blue blood", but his status in the company remained the same. Levesque appeared at Starrcade in 1994 where he battled Alex Wright, and again Jean Paul came out on the losing end.

When 1995 rolled around, WCW started making plans to put Levesque together with fellow "blue blood" Steven Regal to form a tag team. But Jean Paul had had enough. He left WCW and promptly signed with the WWF. In May of 1995, Hunter Hearst Helmsley debuted. He immediately climbed the ranks to midcard status, beating jobbers and other midcarders with his move, the Pedigree. He portrayed an "American Blue Blood", a spoiled rich kid from Greenwich, Connecticut. He always brought a beautiful valet with him to each match, never having the same woman accompany him twice. He was hated by the fans. And that's exactly what the WWF was counting on.

In 1997, after already having won the Intercontinental and European titles, Triple H alligned himself with real-life friend Shawn Michaels as well as Paul's real-life girlfriend Chyna to form D-Generation X. It was his affiliation with DX that allowed Hunter to reach the next level of success in the WWF. Then when Michaels left the wrestling business following Wrestlemania XIV in 1998, Triple H took over the reigns of the group and added new members in X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws (The Road Dogg and Billy Gunn). DX became the most popular stable in wrestling, and with Triple H at the helm, he became one of the most popular wrestlers in the business. He would subsequently leave the group following Wrestlemania XV, and developed a vicious, no-nonsense attitude that eventually led to his realizing his dream of winning the WWF world title.

Hunter has now successfully established himself as a main eventer among other greats of the WWF. The storyline that saw him marry Stephanie McMahon and take over power in the WWF was one of the biggest and most talked about storylines in wrestling history. Although he sacrificed his popularity in order to progress his career, there are no regrets and there is no remorse inside "The Game", Triple H.
