One of wrestling's all-time greats, Steve Borden began his wrestling career
in 1985 when he and Jim "Warrior" Hellwig joined two other wrestlers and formed Power Team USA. In early
1986, Power Team USA dissolved but Hellwig and Borden remained together and went to the Universal Wrestling Federation
(UWF). At that time Hellwig took the name Rock while Borden took the name Justice. There they turned heel and became
the Bladerunners. Together, they tore up the scene until they had an amicable split. At that time, Rock left for
World Class Championship Wrestling and became the Dingo Warrior, later the Ultimate Warrior. Meanwhile, Justice
changed his name to Sting. So the Sting saga had begun.
While in the UWF, Sting formed a friendship with Rick Steiner and won the UWF
tag team titles. This relationship did not last, and the two became entangled in a heated feud and eventually both
left for the National Wrestling Alliance, later to be named World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Sting has since
gone on to become WCW's ultimate team player, dubbed the company's "franchise". He has several "Wrestler
of the Year" honors to his credit. Matching popularity with ring success, he has garnered several WCW World
Heavyweight Championships, along with numerous other titles.
Charismatic charm, flamboyant costumes and face paint, along with incredible
athletic ability, make this Venice Beach, California native a major fan favorite. Outside the ring, Sting's heart
is as big as his biceps. He is actively involved with the Make-A-Wish and Starlight Foundations, which grants wishes
to both chronically and critically ill children across the country. In the words of the Stinger: 'The feeling is
overwhelming when you see a look of joy come over a child's face.'
This former collegiate basketball player was also the co-owner with his buddy
Lex Luger of two highly successful Main Events fitness centers located in Atlanta, but according to several newsletters
Sting sold his shares of these gyms in 1998/1999. In his spare time he enjoys riding his Harley Davidson and water
skiing. Sting has also enjoyed success as a TV star. He played Hammerhead on Hulk Hogan's TV series "Thunder
in Paradise". His fans can also see him in the independent movie "The Real Reason" and in his own
video entitled "Sting Unmasked", plus he's featured in the TNT Original Movie, "Shutter Speed".
Although at times Sting has been a mystery, the immense enthusiasm of his fans
is no secret. He's the master of the Stinger Splash and the Scorpion Deathlock. "America, THIS, IS, STING!"
