The son of WWF owner Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon was first seen regularly
on WWF television in 1997 when he began appearing at ringside in an attempt to stop his father from risking injury
in situations against "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Before long, Shane became a regular character in the
WWF. First, he was the rebellious son who was angered by his father's unfair actions against Steve Austin. This
led to Vince appointing Shane a "lowly" WWF referee. From there, Shane turned on Austin and became the
leader of the Corporation (and later the Corporate Ministry), practically overtaking his father for this position.
In the end however, it was discovered that Vince and Shane had been together from the start, with all of their
actions and trickery taking place for one reason, that being to rid the WWF of Steve Austin.
Aside from his role as "the boss' son", Shane has demonstrated an
ability to wrestle as well. He won the European championship (albeit in controversial fashion) from X-Pac and had
several rematches with the DX member. He also took part in a feud with Test after Shane spoke out against Test's
proposal and engagement to Shane's baby sister Stephanie. This feud culminated in a Match of the Year candidate
at Summerslam 1999. Shortly thereafter, Shane and Test buried the hatchet, and Shane became a popular attraction
on the WWF roster before fading off into the shadows and choosing to go back to the "dark side of the force"
character wise.
Shane McMahon has an active role off-screen as well as on-screen. He is the
WWF President of New Media and oversees all business related to the WWF.com website, as well as all other affiliated
websites. Shane is also credited with assisting in changing the WWF style and making it "edgier" and
more extreme. Shane also played a part in making the D-Generation X angle a reality. He is a definite "chip
off the 'ol block" and the future head of the World Wrestling Federation, Shane McMahon.
