Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of oppression, Raven, the brooding, disturbed manipulative soul returned to Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1999 after wrestling for World Championship Wrestling for a couple of years.

Initially however, Scott Levy appeared in wrestling as anything but the dark, eery character that Raven has become. In 1992 he was Scotty Flamingo in WCW, a cocky, arrogant "pretty boy" that won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. A year after that, he signed with the WWF and became the manager/commentator Johnny Polo, a spoiled "rich kid" character that led the Quebecers to the WWF Tag Team Championship. Polo was also responsible for bringing Adam Bomb (Bryan Clark) into the WWF.

In 1995, Levy signed with ECW, and Raven was born. This new character was such a drastic transition from his previous identities that a lot of fans didn't realize who he was. For the next few years, Raven was a dominant force in ECW, winning both the tag team and world titles on two occasions. He displayed the ability to almost brainwash those around him and get them to do his bidding. His feud with Tommy Dreamer (after Raven's then-manager Beulah announced that she was pregnant with Dreamer's child) was a classic. Because of Raven's status in ECW, it came as a big blow to the company when he re-signed with WCW in late 1997. Just as he had been in ECW, Raven was a success in Atlanta. He won the United States and Tag Team Titles, and also formed Raven's Flock, a stable of wrestlers that included the likes of Saturn, Kidman, Reese, Kanyon, Sickboy, Lodi and Hammer among others. The flock eventually disbanded and as time went on, Raven grew unhappy with management (specifically Eric Bischoff) in WCW. In 1999, Bischoff stated that any wrestler wanting his release could get it, and Raven was the first (and only) to step up to the plate and take advantage of the offer. He was granted his wish, and promptly returned to ECW.

Shocking everyone when he came to his longtime enemy Tommy Dreamer's aid to win the World Tag Team championship with him (from the Dudley Boyz), Raven soon answered all questions with the shocking revelation that he had returned to make Dreamer's life hell. As his partner, Raven took the glory from Dreamer's victories. Dreamer couldn't walk away from his first World championship without destroying the glory of his own career.

However, things took an ever stranger turn for Raven when he attempted to "do the right thing" by Dreamer, helping his partner when he needed help the most. Even when he did the right, moral thing, however, Raven found himself facing the wrong end of the consequences, whether it be physical pain or the loss of the ECW World Tag Team championships to the Impact Players.

Although Raven continues to team with Tommy Dreamer, some surmise it is only a matter of time before he snaps and goes back to his hateful roots as an enemy of the "Innovator of Violence." However, Raven seems to be faithful to Dreamer and Francine.

Has Raven changed his ways and will he continue to do the right thing? Or is Raven just playing his most intricate mindgame yet with the "Innovator of Violence?" When it comes to Raven, one never knows for sure, and that's the way Raven likes it.

Now he is in WWF. He entered by helping out Tazz in his match at the ppv against Jerry "The King" Lawler.
