The Rock

The Rock has to be the biggest name in wrestling today! He claims to be "The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment", and he can back this statement up. He truly is "The People's Champion".

The Rock made his on-screen WWF debut at the 1996 Survivor Series. Originally dubbed Flex Kavana, The Rock fought at the Survivor Series as Rocky Maivia, a nice as pie (no pun intended) babyface whose gimmick was that he was a talented youngster who came from a wrestling family (his father and grandfather were both great wrestlers). Maivia was pushed down everyone's throat too hard and too soon. The fans hated him, so much so that some of them would chant "Die Rocky, Die!"

Eventually, the WWF decided to intervene. After all, this was now the era of rebellous foul-mouthed anti-heroes like Stone Cold Steve Austin. So, in a good decision by WWF management, Rocky was placed in the Nation of Domination, a new heel faction led by Farooq. It was here that Rocky adopted the alias of The Rock, began testing out his eye-brow muscle, and became arrogant and cocky. Better yet, it succeeded in getting The Rock over with the fans. They still chanted "Rocky sucks!", but this time it was a positive thing, because The Rock was now a full-fledged heel. Whilst in the Nation, Rocky captured the WWF Intercontinental title for a second time (his first reign came earlier in the year as Rocky Maivia).
