Doink The Clown started clowning around (sorry!) in the WWF in late 92'. Played by Matt Borne (who also found fame as WCW's Big Josh), Doink was a colourful and entertaining character. An early memory of the clown is him throwing a bucket of water over Marty Janetty on WWF Superstars. In 93', however, Doink really crossed the line.

For weeks he had antagonised Crush with his practical jokes. Shortly before Wrestlemania 9, Crush approached Doink on WWF television. Doink pleaded for mercy, and gave Crush a flower. But while Crush was giving the gift to a ring-side fan, Doink took his "bad arm" out of its socket and beat Crush severly.

It turned out that Doink didn't have a broken arm after all. Instead, he used it as a phony cover story and beat Crush with a cast. At Wrestlemania, Crush tried to get revenge, but lost out when a Doink double interfered.

Later in the year, Doink angered Bam Bam Bigelow by dumping a bucket of confetti over the head of Luna Vachon. The move turned the clown babyface, but it wasn't just his attitude that had changed. Doink had got taller (and was now played by Ray Apollo, instead of Borne). At Survivor Series, Doink imbarressed Bigelow by sending out The Four Doinks (Men On A Mission and The Bushwhackers in disguise) to humiliate Bigelow, The Headshrinkers, and Bastion Booger in a hilarious comedy match.

At Wrestlemania 10, though, it was no laughing matter when Bigelow teamed with Luna and wiped the floor with Doink and his new pin-sized buddy, Dink. Doink was sparingly for the rest of his WWF career. In 1996, he was phased out totally, but he did return (played by Apollo) at Wrestlemania 17 in The Gimmick Battle Royal.
