Welcome to Dave Cuthbert's Home Page

(Under Construction)

I believe it's usual to give a brief history, but I can't be bothered. If you know who I am, you'll know it; if you don't, do you care?

So why have I set up a web page anyway?

I have always believed I had a reasonable grasp of technology. I know how the internal combustion engine works, I can programme the video, I can use fancy cameras, I even understand double overlay masking colour separation techniques, OK, understand is pushing it a bit, but I have done them successfully.
A decade or so ago I purchased my first computer, an Amstrad PCW and using LocoScript and other allied programmes I was able to do everything I wanted. This included producing a Club newsletter, keeping track of the membership and taking the entries for competitions. I was able to produce lists of who had entered what, how much they had paid, what club they belonged to, and lots of other useful (?) information to aid the smooth running of the event. I later acquired a laptop so gained a bit of speed, and a hard drive, but still ran a Dos form of LocoScript. Then a couple of years ago I upgraded again and started using Windows.....
Suddenly my computer has a mind of it's own. Just because a mail merge programme pulled all the committee members addresses out of a data file last year, it doesn't mean it will do so for the 2002 Committee. Then I was stupid enough to expect it print it, something I do most nights. One day I'll learn. It finally deemed to do what I wanted, only to stop halfway through, and try to tell me there were no printer drivers installed!

So what am I going to do with this site?

Well I may put some information about the Hants & Berks Rover Owners and the North Wales Land Rover Club. I might even fulfil a long-standing ambition and list all the cars I have owned. Now that should be mind numbingly boring. I really don't know. I don't even know how big 10 Megabytes is (I believe the space I have available) In my Amstrad days such a size was beyond comprehension, but Windows files seem just a bit bigger.

If you've stuck with it this far, thanks. I won't suggest making it a favourite, but please come back in a month or so and see if I've made any progress!

Well, all that was written over a year ago. Setting up the web page was easy, thanks must go to Alan Brown who steered me in the right direction, although having initially written it in HTM , I found it was easier, if more wasteful in file size, to use word and save it accordingly. However uploading it on to the web proved a bit harder. I already “owned” to lots of web space, but could I access them?
Eventually I tried Yahoo! and GeoCities, this may mean pop up adverts, but I can live with that, if you can’t you’re welcome to pay for me to have a web site free of ads.

All I have to do now is decide what I am going to do with it.
