Religion, sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system, is commonly defined as belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine; and the moral codes, practices, values, and institutions associated with such belief. It has been called the sum total of answers given to explain humankind's relationship with the universe, or wisdom related to understanding human life, or simply, a way of life.
"Religion" is also a social phenomenon, and is sometimes spoken of in the narrower sense of "organized religion" - an organization of people supporting the exercise of some religion. The major religions have sacred writings or scriptures, and this site hosts some of these writings for those who wish to read them (see above and below).
