It would take a lifetime
to destroy a tree
with my bare hands, teeth,
and body-weight, climbing up
and snapping its branches,
moving down and stomping,
then moving further down
and really jumping
up and down on the branches.
Then, when I reach that level
where I must gnaw through...
seems I'll never make it through
the trunk (That final kick!).
The scratching and digging
pulling and pulling
to uproot the roots.
