The League of Nations

The League of Nations was an international governing body established as the final article of the Versailles Peace Treaty, whose goal was to ensure that a war like the one just concluded on the continent was never again possible. This League was to solve all problems diplomatically; or failing that, act in unison to put down any conflict, anywhere in the world.
The League consisted of a Council, itself consisting of representatives from the great powers (Great Britain, France, Italy, and Japan) and of four other, nonpermanent members, a General Assembly which consisted of representatives from each member nation, and secretariat. Both the assembly and the council were empowered to discuss “any matter within the sphere of action of the League or affecting the peace of the world.” In both the assembly and the council unanimous decisions were required. Additionally, the League featured the Permanent Court of International Justice, which was charged with determining matters of international law and settling disputes; whose edicts the Council and/or Assembly would need to implement.

In the scope of the game, the League of Nations may be called on to resolve disputes, make judgements and the like, regarding maters of international importance. The Council is comprised of the players of the Great Powers, while the General Assembly encompasses all league members who are players and NPCs alike. In the event a case should go before the World Court, the justices are all NPCs.

Should the League resolve to press economic sanctions on a state, all member nations are assumed to follow through with the sanctions; unless the player publicly states otherwise, defying the League's mandate. In this case, the economic sanctions will likely have an impact on the nation, which, depending on the nation's reliance on trade, may be quite detrimental; or may be shrugged off entirely by a largely self-sufficient nation. A League resolution to use force leaves open to each member state the manner in which it would prefer to respond to the call to arms.
