Where call centers and switchboard were once the norm for handling customer service related issues, today technological advances have allowed companies to hire virtual customer service representatives world wide. To begin a career as a home based customer service representative, you will need to have a computer that is up to date with the company's technological requirements. Every company has different requirements as well as their own software that you will most likely need to download so that you will be able to receive data from your computer as you work.

When working in the customer service field, you will need to have a lot of patience. Customer service requires having the ability to listen to customers' needs, as well as their complaints.
