Would You Reach Out a Hand?

by Vickey Stamps

Would you reach out a hand to me if my skin would match your own?
Would you pull back your hand from me if the skin were a different tone?

If I had warts upon my skin, looked fat and was unkempt,
Would you place judgment on me? Would a helping hand be lent?

If I were of a different faith would you push to make yours mine?
Would you try to understand my faith, Oh that would be divine

For I would not mock what you are but try to understand,
For God created equally a woman and a man.

I believe you are my brother or my sister on this earth,
That this was God's intention when He gave us each birth.

Would you help me feed the hungry, show the homeless that we care?
Would you give up a coat or hat - and be real glad to share?

Rich or poor, we all with talents live.
That calls for a commitment to those better off to give.

God never closed or shut the door, without windows opened up,
He never leaves us thirsty if we will but lift our 'cup'.

Life is so short, so little time...
I'll be your friend. Won't you be mine?
