Take A Walk On The Wild Side
At Woodlawn Nature Center!
604 Woodlawn Avenue, Elkhart, Indiana
Our Mission. . .
Woodlawn Nature Center is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of  Indiana's  natural resources through hands-on education.
How It All Began. . .
In the early 1960s, Mrs. Dorothy Greenleaf Boyton donated portions of land to the City of Elkhart and financed a building to establish a nature park.  In 1965 the Woodlawn Nature Council, a not-for-profit organization, was formed to operate the Nature Center.
As a result of the enthusiasm and love of nature by Mrs. Boyton and the Council, many area residents and organizations benefit from nature education programs and exhibits.
Today. . .
Thousands of school children, scouts, and adult organizations receive custom programs.  Summer nature classes are provided to a variety of children, educating them about the importance of nature and the environment.  Guest speakers and workshop leaders provide an additional outlet for learning about the Earth we all share.
