My Preschool Superstar Treatment
and Description
by Michael Berns and Marlene Mandell
THE PREMISE:
My Preschool Superstar is a combination reality television show/game show,
with kids ages 2-6. The concept is simple – the audience is introduced to 5
extraordinary kids. Each one wants to be the first kid to answer 5 questions
right. The first one to get 5 points becomes the “Superstar,” and wins the
title of superstar. An emphasis is placed on becoming the trademarked
“Number 1 Superstar.” Kids watching at home can become the superstar by
answering the “Superstar POP QUIZZES,” that pop up randomly throughout the
show. This allows the show to be interactive, entertaining, and educational
all at the same time.
THE FORMAT:
The format of the show is as follows. There are three main parts. Total
running time will be 30 minutes (with commercials) per episode.
Part 1 – Introductions to the characters
In this section of the show, the audience is introduced to each of the
contestants through snippets of interviews and play time. The interviews
feature a broad range of questions from asking what the kids’ favorite toys
are, to what they like to eat.
Part 2 – Story Time
This section of the show, which follows the introduction of the characters,
is the story section. The contestants gather around the host of the show,
Ms. Debbie, and listen to her tell a story. The stories will be original
children’s stories, or classical tales like “Goldie Locks.” Each contestant
tries his or her best to remember the story’s details because immediately
following the story time segment, the contestants will be quizzed on the
story in the game show segment.
Part 3 – Game Show
In the game show segment, the five contestants compete to become the
“Superstar,” by answering questions that Ms. Debbie asks them. The questions
are factual questions that come directly from the story the children were
just told. “What color was Papa Bear’s bowl?” is an example of a question
that could be for the story “Goldie Locks.” After a question is asked, the
first contestant to raise his or her hand is picked to answer the question.
No bells or buzzers are used. Funny sound effects and animation will be
added when a character gets the question right, in addition to graphic
effects that show a contestant’s score. The first one to get five points
will win the title of “Superstar.”
Inserts -- “Superstar POP QUIZ”
Throughout the show at various random points will be a “Superstar POP QUIZ.”
In the “Superstar POP QUIZ,” a picture is placed on the screen and a voice
asks the audience members watching “What’s this?” Possible answers are given
and then the right answer is given. This allows kids watching at home to
participate and become a “Superstar.”
