PRODIGAL DAUGHTER
Written and directed by internationally
acclaimed auteur Asa Palomera, Prodigal Daughter follows the journey of Mina –
a Korean American – who as a child was sent away from Korea to live in the US. In
her middle age, Mina returns to Korea for her father’s funeral and uncovers
some dark skeletons in the family closet. The play delves intensely into the
complex relationship with her family, her mother in particular.
Although a powerful and evocative play,
humor is never far away, and there are some genuine laugh out loud moments throughout
the piece. Audiences should be prepared to chuckle as much as they cry. The initial production of this performance received funding from the City of Melbourne Arts Grants.
