**Under Construction - watch this space!** WomanCare Options is comprised of a core group of Adelaide lesbian aged care professionals. They share skills including residential care facility management, community care management and social work. Old lesbians, or lesbians with disabilities, don't exist. That is what you might think if you took a snapshot of aged care today. Although estimates put lesbians at around (and at least) 5% of the female population, they are the most invisible segment. The issue of lesbian-centred aged and disabled care is one that requires urgent action, and that is precisely what this group is addressing. As a population we are living longer and surviving into more years of potential disability. Respondents to a recent WomanCare Options Australia-wide phone in, and audiences at various aged care forums, have indicated very strongly that they want provision made for lesbian-specific housing, encompassing fully independent, community and supported residential options. We are eager to hear the views of any lesbian on issues related to accommodation for ageing or disabled lesbians. Please email us! |
