Wulguru Neighbourhood Watch

Welcome to all the international and inter-state Neighbourhood Watch visitors to this site. Your emails are always appreciated.

The Wulguru Neighbourhood Watch was founded in July 1998, and is continually expanding its activities and membership within the local area. Neighbourhood Watch is a program organised by the community in order to reduce residential crime. Householders are encouraged to join together in a small informal group for the purpose of improving the safety of their families and other neighbourhood residents including businesses in their local community. Wulguru is one of over 700 Neighbourhood Watch groups active in Queensland.

The Wulguru Neighbourhood Watch meets every Second Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm at the Community Centre on Edison St Wulguru.

Each meeting is attended by residents, committee members, police officers, fire fighters, statisticians and informed guest speakers. This is a great way to learn more about crime awareness and prevention. Each month a different guest speaker provides information on issues concerning crime throughout Townsville and crime prevention in the local area.

Wugluru Neighbourhood Watch helps organise many great activities, including fun days, movie nights, car washes for youth to earn honest money, bus trips for the elderly and much much more. Many great guest speakers attend our meetings, including his honour Clive Wall QC who spoke recently of larger penalties being applied to armed offenders in the community.

The Wulguru Community Centre now has a great new look. New floors inside and paving outside make the hall a fantastic meeting place.

The last few meetings have seen excellent guest speakers including aldermans, police officers and firemen. These have been well worth listening too, and the executive would like to encourage everyone to come down to the meetings each month.

Wulguru is continually praised by local police for having such an active neighbourhood watch area. We currently have the best attended meetings out of all of Townsville and are extremely prevalent in the local area.

People participating in Neighbourhood Watch programs usually take steps such as:

As well as the above mentioned, the Wulguru Neighbourhood Watch have also engaged in House Numbering throughout the area, to make house numbers more visible to emergency vehicles.

We have also held the highly successful UFO Fun Days at the Wulguru Park just before each school holiday. The UFO day attempts to bring together the local community and show our youth that there is plenty to do in the area, rather than turning to crime through boredom.

Legal Graffiti on the Wulguru Scout Hall has also been promoted in our area, showcasing local young artistic talent and demonstrating to our youth that there are plenty of beneficial outcomes to a form of artwork that would normally draw negative attention.

To be part of these great projects, come along to the next meeting and see what you can do to be involved.
