A Tribute in Honor of: OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS, OUR HEROES & Victims of 9/11 &  Those that LOVED THEM
Army, Air Force, Marine, Navy, & Coast Guard
IN MEMORY OF:
I want us to always remember those MIA and those that gave the ultimate sacrifice - losing their life on foreign soil to save our lives and our freedoms.
Let us never forget WWI & WWII where many lost lives and POWs were scattered all over both hemipheres.

Let's not forget the horrific horrors of the Korean War where many lost lives there as well.

Vietnam losses were many, remember the efforts to get out POWs back and seek out our MIA's for years.

HAVE YOU EVER LOVED A FALLEN HERO?

Have you ever given your heart to ...
a soldier/airman/marine/sailor?

Have you ever laid in bed the night before deployment...
listening to every heartbeat and breath - all night long?

Have you ever kissed them goodbye smiling...
not allowing the tears to fall,
determined to be just as brave as they  were...
only to cry a river, when they were safely on their way?

Have you ever cherished every...
card, letter, email, every 10 minute phone call?

Have you ever wondered, prayed, hoped
for their safe return?

Have you ever had them come home in a Flag draped casket?
Have you ever loved a fallen soldier?
I have...

Daddy's Day

"Daddy's Day" has been published in the books "Chicken Soup for the Parent's Soul"
and "Stories for a Teen's Heart 2".
"Her hair up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow.  Today was Daddy's Day at school, and couldn't wait to go.  But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home.  Why the kids might not understand, if she went to school alone.  But she was not afraid she knew just what to say.  What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.  But still her mother worried, for her to face this day alone.  And that was why once again, she tried to keep her daughter home.  But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all about a dad she never sees , a dad who never calls.  There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet. Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats.
One by one the teacher called a student from the class to introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.  At  last the teacher called her name.  Every child turned to stare, each of them was searching for a man who wasn't there.  "Where's her daddy at?" she heard a boy call out.  "She probably doesn't have one," another student deared to shout.  And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say: "Looks like anohter deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day".  The words did not offend her, as she smiled up at her mom and looked back at her teacher, who told her to go on.  And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak.  And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique. "My Daddy couldn't be here because he lives so far away." But I know he wishes he could be, since this is such a special day.  And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know all about my daddy and how much he loves me so.  He loved to tell me stories, he taught me to ride my bike.  He surprised me with pink roses, and taught me to fly a kite.  We used to share fudge sundaes, and ice cream in a cone.  And though you cannot see him, I'm not standing her alone, cause my daddy's always with me, even though we are apart.
I know because he told me he'll forever be in my heart.  With that, her little hand reached up, and lay across her chest, feeling her own heartbeat beneath her favorite dress.  And from somewhere in the crowd of dads her mother stood in tears, proudly watching her daughter who was wise beyond her years.  For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life, doing what was best for her, doing what was right.  And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd, she finished with a voice so soft, but its message clear and loud, "I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star, and if he could, he'd be here, but heaven's just too far."
but sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away.  And then she closed her eyes, and saw him there that day.
And to her mother's amazement, she witnessed with surprise a room full of daddies and children all starting to close their eyes.  Who knows what they saw before them, who knows what they felt inside.  Perhaps for merely a second, they saw him at her side.
"I know you're with me Daddy.' to the silence she called out.  And what happened next made believers of those once filled with doubt.  Not one in that room could explain it, for each of their eyes has been closed, but there on the desk beside her, was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose...
And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star, and given the gift of believing that heaven is never too far. http://www.werismyki.com/writings/daddys_day_poem.html "
Sandy's  note to the reader:
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life
to forget them.
I know you know of someone you want to remember, we never know how long we will have our loved ones, special friends.  Let's be sure we remember our veterans & our soldiers who have fought so bravely and gallantly, making many sacrifices still today, especially those fighting today, they need to know they are remembered, and that we keep them close in our hearts. Be sure you let them know and your loved ones and friends you will remember them always, after all, It's a short message, but an important one.  For those that gave the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our freedom, this is a great message to keep in your heart - whether it is true or not, it could be, but it is a great message for us to carry wtih us to help us to heal, knowing that our most cherished loved ones are so very close to us.
May Jesus be just as close to your hearts and your side and let him share in your grief, your sad times, and happy times, your brave times, let him hold you together like he did for this little girl that this story talks about. It touched my heart and has a very special moment for me as my daddy is also in heaven so faraway, yet so very near - I know he and Jesus are with me - let him help you remember your loved one with such peace and boldness to want to share about your loved one with courage.

I Remember

I remember his eyes
As deep blue as the ocean
Eyes full of life delighting in the day
Eyes that took in everything and missed nothing
Eyes that could make you rheart jump from across the room
Eyes that could be as young as spring or as old as the mountains

I remember his hands
Gental hands
Strong hands
Hands that could do whatever was needed
And yet never lose the gnetleness of a touch or a caress

I remember his smile
A smile that could light up a room
A silly grin when he got caught at something
A mischievous grin when he was about to do something
He could never scrawl effectively
But then those under him might disagree

I remember his laughter
An infectious laughter that could fill a room

I remember a man
A man of honor, proud to serve his country
A man of dignity
A man of courage and gentleness of soul
A man capable of taking charge and orders
A man who wouldn't let life get him down
No matter what he saw

I remember his heart
A heart full of compassion
A heart big enough to love the innocents, no matter where they lived
A heart that broke with what it saw
A heart that refused to allow bitterness to seep inside
A heart that loved me

MEMORIAL DAY 2004
written by Tara Rose
A three-day weekend people exclaim, time to paint the house, and get ready for summer, others are at the lake or perhaps a picnic in the park.  What should we do on a long weekend?  Visit with friends and family while complaining how hot the summer is going to be.
I took out your picture today; you looked so handsome in your uniform going off to war.  I watched you board the plane heading to the Middle East along with many other family members.  We held our heads high with pride; our loved one was going to protect our country.  When the plane lifted off, we hugged each other allowing the tears to fall.
People across the country hit the malls buying up the sales.  Clothes, household appliances, furniture, summer gear, come and get them while their hot.  Car dealers proclaiming they have the best deal of the summer available only until Monday.  Americans live theri daily lives rarely thinking about those who protect their freedom.
Men and women, who are living in little tents on the ground, fighting today so the ordinary person can continue to live in comfort.  They endure extreme temperatures, eating MREs, working longer, harder, more dangerous hours than firefighters, all the while dreaming of home and their loved ones.  Cards, letters, emails, and the occasional phone call keep them in touch with the ones they left behind.
A parade went through town today, honoring those who have fought in the past and fight today.  I watched with your best friend who recently returned injured from the war; he stood at attention saluting as the flag went by and the National Anthem played.  I crossed my heart and thought of you.  Later we went to the National Cemetery, as he held my hand I laid flowers on your grave.  Sleep well my love; we'll never forget you, and all those who gave their all to serve our country.
THE FLAG Of THE UNITED STATES Of AMERICA

I am the Flag of the United States of America.
my name is OLD GLORY.
I fly atop the World's Tallest Buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
I stand for PEACE, HONOR, TRUTH and JUSTICE.
I stand for FREEDOM.
I am Confident.
I am Arogant.
I am PROUD.

When I am flown with my fellow banners, My head is a little highter, my colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected - and I am feared.
I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years.
I have flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KehSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.  I was there. I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud. I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt for I am invincible. I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of MY country.  And when it is done by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong. I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon. I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours. But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier, or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent  at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.
Forward my message to all who still love and respect me, that I may fly proudly for another two hundred years.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
