What injustice do I speak of? Over the past 10+ years there has been a rise in the promotion and support of fathers who are fighting against the ramifications of what they see as unfair divorce laws. Divorce laws that have put many of these fathers into financial ruin, laws that have stripped them of their rights to be with their children, to lose their businesses, forced them into indentured servitude under the title of alimony and a myriad of other totally legal practices.
These men have websites, support groups, books, and organizations designed to help them survive and fight these injustices.
The irony here is that in today's society where women now make up a significant percentage of the workforce, and stay at home dads are no longer hard to find, the dilemma that men once shouldered has now found its way into the female population as well.
This fight against the problems with our marriage and divorce laws can no longer be viewed solely as a man's fight.
It is my belief that the sexes must stop fighting each other and begin to fight the system that allows judges, who are not even elected officials, to dictate, sometimes based on nothing more than their whim, what is appropriate in regards to how a marriage is dissolved. It is time to fight against the legal system that continues to allow attorney's to exacerbate an already painful event, under the guise that they are trying to help their client. Now I know that there are good solid upstanding divorce attorneys out there, unfortunately it requires both attorneys in a divorce action to do the right thing.
So what are the answers? How do we change this situation we have created.
