Introduction

More friendly and versatile. Unlike other traditional channels where you get kicks and bans of going out of scope or asking stupid questions. Where you are advised again and again to google.

You can talk about anything even related to any other open source 'Unix-Like' OS like *bsd or MacOSX. Even make a windows comments or comparisons.

If anyone will be willing to chat with you, he will. If you don't get an answer, wait or try google again :)

Memo founder to discuss anything. Complaints and suggestions.

 /ms send Nix3r <your_msg>

Channel Operators

This is not forced or is not a requirement but channel operators are requested to deop them self normally in the room. Only op your self when an op action is required. This will encourage normal users to talk freely making an apparent friendly atmosphere. This will also help fighting spam and intruders, as they might message/invite you assuming you are not an op. you surprise them by  oping your self and kick/ban that intruder!

There are some rules.

1. Be nice 2. Remember the first rule 3. Don't forget the second rule 4. Never tolerate channel abuse or intruders. 5. Check your memos regularly (/ms list) 6. Memo founder to discuss anything

General rules

#English-only   #Just_ask   #pastebin   #repeat   #private_messages #change_nick_too_fast_or_use_long_away_nicks_or_actions   #not_required_to_help   #clones   #off-topic_chat   #We_support   #bot   #abusive_language   #polite_and_courteous   #flood   #Illegal_activities   #right_to_kick_and_ban

* This is an English-only channel. Only English is allowed.

* If you have a question or topic of discussion, Just ask! Don't ask to ask, don't ask if there is anyone is there who can help, don't ask if anyone is home or alive.

* Use pastebin like www.pastebin.com or any other service for long text. don't flood in the channel.

* There is no need to repeat just when you typed the same thing before, like this:

<questioner> how to install an application?

<questioner> how to install an application?

Wait or ask again after some time. an hour or two.

* Do not send private messages to users or ops unless you have their permission. Ask permission in the channel first.

* Do not change nick too fast or use long away nicks or actions like /me is back.  or scripts that message all channels you are in that you are doing something. This  show as a message and when users see the channel window they find it annoying as not a chat message. If you are going to be away. (only if not very often) only type [a] in your nick. but we still don't recommend that.

* You are not required to help others, but your time is appreciated if you do help. You may help others in private if you/he/she desires, but we prefer the conversation remains in the public channel so that others can learn from it,

* Max 2 clones are allowed. if you have a bot and you wish it to sit in the channel. ask the founder first.

* Try not to have an off-topic chat.

* We support hacking, DDos, shell, bnc, ircd, anything that is possible on Linux or *Nix, but in a positive manner, for constructive or analytical point of view.

* Respect the channel bot. currently LBot. He's a killer :) Memo complaints to the channel founder.

All commands else than- For Linux News-  /msg LBot !Lnews<number>  (where <number> can be 1 to 4), are for OPs only.
Other commands that may not be used by non-ops, include:
For dictionary definitions-   /msg LBot .dict <word>
For ip to geo location-   .ip <nick>
For seen stats for a nick or host-   !seen <nick/host>

Please do not play with commands. Use only when needed.*

* We're a family channel and as such you should assume that you should not have abusive language.

* Please be polite and courteous at all times. Avoid saying anything which may be offensive to other users. Text conversation is abit different from normal conversation, it's often hard to know if you're kidding or not and so things might be taken the wrong way.

* Avoid the use of "annoyance" attributes. These are attributes that make the text bold, italic, underlined, colored etc. Not all IRC programs support these tags and they're often hard on the eyes or distracting. You'll probably get kicked rather fast if you use them anyways.

* Linux advocacy isn't about bashing all non open source software. There are going to be people that run other products, don't insult them by making fun of what they run. There is no multi-million dollar marketing scheme behind Linux, the Linux users are the sole representation of it -- make us look good.

* Don't "flood" the screen with multiple lines of text at once, (more than 3 or 4 lines quickly sent at a time is considered a flood). If you have something long to say either rephrase it or try to fit it all in one message. It can be very annoying when what you were reading suddenly scrolls 10 lines up the screen rather quickly.

* We are not a software repository, if you're trying to find an application or module to support a piece of hardware please check http://freshmeat.net/, http://sourceforge.net/search/ or http://google.com/linux first.

* Illegal activities, warez, porn, bnc and mp3 trading, hax0r activity and various types of antisocial behavior are all off-topic and _will_ result in your being banned from the channel.

* We do reserve the right to kick and ban at our discretion if we feel a user is abusing the service we offer.
