MADISON RAILROADS
This website is being developed for two reasons.  One, to document the history of Railroads in the Madison, Wisconsin area on the internet.  There are several websites already available to view that offer content that covers Madison.  This website is not meant to compete, moreso compliment those other sites with images that illustrate the history of the area.  Two, to act as a stepping off point for a book that I hope to publish in the near future telling the story of Madison Railroads in detail.  Since the late 1800's, Madison has been a railroad town, though more recently the frequency has been reduced from what it was in the past.  The area is rich in history with the Milwaukee Road, Chicago and North Western and Illinois Central (and their predecessors) forming most of what we know today.  Through bankruptcies, abandonments and reductions in service, the face of Madison's railroads have changed often in the past 20 years.
