JANUARY 2004     Just a Little Bit Funny--GO TO ESSAYS GALORE!

THE ESCAPADES  OF MOSTLY IRISH*

JANUARY 'QUOTE OF THE MONTH': "IN THE DANCE OF LIFE EACH OF US HAS ONE PERFECT PARTNER WHO MOVES TO THE SAME SECRET MUSIC AS OUR OWN." -- HALLMARK CARD GIVEN TO ME BY ME NORSKI SWEETHEART.

I am a chronic collector. I collect stories about: life; dust; marbles; tin toys; and chronic diseases. I began a site on the net with the intent of reaching out to other people with visible disabilities similar to my own. To my surprise AND delight other folks liked my words.  I also came to the realization that everyone has disabilities, some just don't show. Now I write for everyone.

Each month I publish a new essay and poem based on whatever muse is perched upon my shoulder.  I believe in people and laughter. I hope you will give my site a try.

My goal is to bring a smile to your lips and

a chance to refresh your spirit.

*About the author of this site:

To borrow a quote from a friend,  "As if anyone gives a damn!" I am 62, gray, chubby, LIVE IN A CARE CENTER, and easily amused. It therefore follows that  I enjoy my own company. I have FIVE adult children. Three came via my birth canal and TWO came via my second husband.  My husband is Norwegian. "You can always tell a Norwegian, but you can't tell him much." We have enjoyed most of the 28 years we have spent together. (So who scores a perfect 10, 100% of the time?)  We have fifteen grandchildren.

I do openly talk about the situations, both physical and mental, that I have found myself in, on this journey called life.  It is my hope that when I discuss dealing with a chronic illness on this site, it is helpful and shares with you the commonality among folks everywhere.  The skills we use to make the most of our journey are ones that can be applied to all problems.   One of the most valuable skills is laughter.

I believe it is the responsibility of the 'visibly challenged' to meet  those with hidden disabilities more than half way.  I do, have experience rolling not walking through life.  A comment on the weather, a smile, or a request for assistance is almost always greeted with a positive response.  When it is not, it only proves that the other person has greater disabilities than you do.  I do not believe there is anyone out there who is non-challenged in some way.

My favorite pastimes far out number the hours in a day. I like nature and art. I love traveling in our 24-foot trailer, especially in the 'Four Corners' area of the USA. I like to use recycled materials to create 'works of art' (referred to as ticky-tacky by my mate).  The Far Side cartoon appeals to my sense of humor. I love popcorn and diet Dr Pepper. I love to write letters to companies or government agencies that do not deliver the services or products they promise. I like most people and love many.  I like to decorate my environment with color and light.

The internet is a favorite interest. Writing is a great passion at this point in my life.  I began my first home page three years ago. I did not know how to type when I began. I did not know how to spell either, but that is a chronic condition that has been with me since birth. I also like to make up words. (Someone has to or an entire dictionary industry would fall to its' knees!)

I also cry, get discouraged and depressed.  I am who I am. Oh, I just remembered a very important point about who I am, I am MOSTLY IRISH.
