Samuel was born in VA. Sam's father, Isaac, was the surety for their marriage in Carroll County. Samuel received a 160 acre grant of land in Carroll County by instrument dated July 1, 1857. However, Samuel and his family were in Wythe County, in 1860. Their 3 year old son, Isaac, died in November of quinsey after a 14 day illness and Samuel died in December of bilious fever after a 90 day illness. The US Census for that year show Polly with her brother, George, and children Joseph and Emmaline.

The 1850 US Census for Wythe County has Mary or Polly, age 16, with her family consisting of her mother, Margaret, age 40; William age 25, a farmer, and George, age 14. There is no indication as to the name or location of her father although I have heard rumors that they came from NC. Any help would be appreciated.
