Noah Winesett

Born about 1807/1811 and died after 1863

Noah was a farmer. He and Rachael were in Grayson County, VA, for the 1850 census and Hawkins County, TN, for the 1860 census. It is not known what happened to Noah. The Webmaster has heard rumors that someone was buying a grave marker for him but could never determine when or where he died.

Karen Hall found a roster for Company G, 22nd Virginia Calvery which listed a N. Winset [Library of VA, Vol. 12, page 8]. Co. G was made up of men from Wythe County supplemented by Carroll and Grayson Counties. Also Winesett is often misspelled by omitting the middle "e" in county records. There were no Winsetts in the area, so I presume this is Noah. However, the question of what happened to him is still open. Was he killed in battle and buried in an unmarked grave?

At the time of the 1850 Federal Census for Grayson County, VA, 165 District, Nathan Porter and his wife Nancy, both age 55 and their daughter Violet, age 19, were residing in Noah's household. Was there a blood relationship between the Porters and Noah's family? Help anyone?

Legend has it that Rachael arrived in Red Oak, Bland County, VA, in a wagon loaded with her 4 children, a few pieces of furniture and all their personal possessions from Woodlawn. Rachael was born in Carroll County, VA, and died in Red Oak, Bland County, VA. Rachael was in Bland County for the 1870 census.

Noah and Rachael's known children are:
1. Harvey (1856),
2. Johnson M. (about 1856),
3. Nathan Easterly (1-May 1860 to 11-May-1948),
4. Phoebe (1863) and
5. Mary Jayne (1-Dec-1864).

Nathan and Mary Jayne, brother and sister, married Susan BeEtta Brown and Jesse Brown who were also sister and brother. Harvey was not listed with the family for the 1850 Census in Tennessee. Where was he? Are Harvey and Johnson twins? What are their exact birth dates?

I found a Jayne site which indicates that Darthula married John Boran in 1839. That site also indicates that she died in 1910 rather than 1900. It did not say if there were children of John Boran.

The Bland County 1880 federal census lists a D. Winesett, widow, as a servant for the T. McWilliam family. Suspect that this is Darthula.
