Joyce was born in Carroll County, VA and died in Santa Clara, CA.. Her parents allowed sister, Frieda, to choose her name. Joyce graduated from Great Mills High School in Lexington MD. She and husband, Bill, moved to California in 1950. Her employment history inclues waitressing, nursery/pre-school teacher, sales clerk and licensed cosmotologist (1974). She was a member of the Navy Wives Club, Red Hats Society, her local Grandmother's Club, Sunnyvale CA Seniors Group and Hope Lutheran Church. She supported her husband during his 20 years of active Navy service and Masonic Lodge activities.

Joyce and Bill are interred beside one another in Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, CA.

Bill and Joyce's childeren are:
1. Kenneth (15-Mar-1951) married Kathleen; their children are Christopher William and Kendell Rae (26-Feb-1975); Chris married Molly and they have a daughter Kayla Raylyn (4-Aug-1997), Kenneth is a retired Navy Commander;
2. Pamela Kay ( to ) married and divorced Delmer Paul Withheld; their children are Jennifer Marie (25-Jun-1975) and Jeffrey William(23-Jun-1979)married Cindy Withheld 30-Sep-2005, their child is Makenna (11-Sep-2004); Jennifer married Gerald "Jerry" F. Withheld and they have 3 daughers, Melanie Anne, Sara Michelle and Amy Nichole (Jerry has a daughter Alexandra Katherine from a prior marriage); and
3. Patricia Kay (17-Apr-1958) married 5-Jun-1982 Robert Thomas Withheld (23-Sep-1948)a retired sailor withtwo children:Yvonne Renee (19-May-1968) and Phillip Robert-Preben (5-Nov-1971), Kristina Joyce (23-Aug-1979) and Kevin (8-Apr-1983; Yvonne married Michael Withheld; their children are Ayla (1-Jul 1990) and Michael Jr.; Phillip married Mae and their children are Rayden, Matthew and Kevin.
