John was a miner. Nothing is known about John and Maude's life together. I originally had John's middle initial as "T". Descendants say his middle name was "Foster" and that it is an "F" rather than a "T" on his grave in Whitetop Cemetery near Austinville.

John and Maude's only child was Okla "Okle" Poline (23-Mar-1916) who died when about 26 years old. She attended Woodlawn school and married Herbert Large of Roanoke. She died of heart trouble.

There is supposed to be a class photograph of Okle in the Galax museum. She was reportedly very pretty.

Maude remarred 1921 to George Houston Edwards. They had several children and lived near Fries. Houston and some of his children are buried at Woodlawn United Methodist Church cemetery.
