Trachtenberg managed to escape to Switzerland, where he perfected his system. In 1950, Trachtenberg founded the Mathematical Institute in Zürich where he taught his method to children and adults.

| THis sounds like a book only children or digit heads would read but it's not! It's really cool if you have any slight interest in mathematics and especially if you would like to improve on your mental maths. Really simple (and interesting) ways to do mental calculations eg. if you were to multiply any 2 digit number by 11, the easiest was is to take the number , for example 63, add the two digits together (6+3)=9 and insert the result between the two original numbers 693 !! If this doesn't excite or interest you then it's probably not the book for you. As far as price is concerned I bought my copy from a book club in the UK for approx. $18 ( softback) , lent it to a math tutor who had it stolen from his car and I haven't replaced it since, although I definately recon it's worth the $50 or so. | I was given this book when I was a freshman in High School. I must say it really opened my eyes to the FUN you can have with math. NO, I was not a bookworm, or the teachers pet. This book made math so easy and fast, that I amazed many of my teachers with the skill it gave me. I was able to perfrom in seconds what it took my teachers many times longer to accomplish. Over the years, I have wished I still had the hardbound copy to refer to and to use in helping my daughter get the GRIP on math that all school aged children should have. I would like to see it used as a tool for learning in our schools. Of all the books I have come across, this one is a particular favorite of mine. I am going to have to order a copy for my daughter who is in college now, but has heard me talk about this book for years.I still find myself working problems with the methods this book taught me. |
