Recruitment

The unit has a long and proud tradition of authenticity and comradeship - two factors we, in the 156PzGr Regt, consider to be foremost.
Our uniform and authenticity regulations are some of the strictest in any WWII Living History Society because we feel, to portray the WWII German Panzergrenadier, can only be achieved by using the best uniforms and equipment available.

Members are required to learn authentic foot and rifle drill with the commands being given in German as part of the basic training (
not as difficult as it sounds!), and to kit themselves out at their own expense in accordance with our authenticity guidelines and regulations.
New members are given one year to get fully .

All members of the unit are required to act in a soldierly manner whilst in uniform and to follow reasonable orders from Officers, NCO's and WWII LHA Officials.

The
156PzGr Regt is a 're-created' living history unit based on the actual unit that fought with distinction in North West Europe between 1944 and 1945, therefore, we owe it to those men of both sides to portray them correctly and with respect - lest we forget.

New members are posted, after completing their training and acquiring all the regulation uniform and equipment, to a Gruppe made up of members from roughly the same area so that a natural bond is formed.

Costs
1) £20 per year for membership of the
WWII Living History Association.
2) Top quality reproduction field grey wool Tunic, Trousers, Cap plus pullover grey shirt and all insignia £500 upwards.
3) Full field equipment (mixture of original and exact reproduction) £300 - £400.
4) Additional items such as boots, greatcoat, helmet etc. £200.
5) Firearms Certificate, approved security cabinet and Mauser K98k rifle £300.
This brings the grand total to around £1500, but there is always much more optional kit available if required; we usually find most new members soon get bitten by the "kit bug"! Most items can be acquired through the unit, never buy anything without consulting us first as the kit a "reputable" militaria dealer sells you may turn out not to be suitable.

The thought of spending a grand on kit may put many potential recruits off; there are plenty of groups around that you can join for a fraction of that if you are happy to wear poorly converted army surplus and "make do" kit. If you wish to re-create the ordinary frontline German Panzergrenadier  correctly then you will understand why it costs so much to get kitted out for
156PzGr Regt. Unlike most other WWII period societies, WWII LHA does not charge it's members to take part in tactical training events on hired land. the cost is paid for out of public show payments. As a member of 156PzGr Regt you will benefit from being a member of WWII LHA; the UK's oldest and most professional WWII Re-enactment / Living History society. We have full insurance, access to excellent sites nationwide and the best public shows.
