The Rhythm Cloggers Of Houston, Texas

The Rhythm Cloggers had their beginning in March 1975 when Wade and Gloria Driver moved to Houston, Texas from Florida. They started classes and then the club was named and organized in May 1975 and became officially known as the Rhythm Cloggers. The club showed remarkable growth and had as many as one hundred members at one time.

The Rhythm Cloggers have performed many times and at many places across the United States. Rhythm Cloggers have made themselves available to many charitable organizations and benefits around the City of Houston and the State of Texas.

Various benefits include nursing homes, church benefits, fund raising for volunteer fire departments, rodeo related performances and local TV shows (Channels 2, 26 and 39). Rhythm Cloggers performed when “A This Day With Katherine” aired on NBC honoring former hostage Bill Royer.

When the “Today Show”, shown nationally on NBC, included Houston on their tour, Rhythm Cloggers was invited to perform on the show. The club clogged next to the railroad tracks where the Minute Maid baseball stadium now stands. Rhythm Cloggers have performed for many National Square Dance Conventions and helped instruct others at the clogging clinics during the various conventions.

One memorable event was a performance before Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip during their visit to Houston in May of 1991. Prince Phillip was seen taping his foot to the beat of the music during the performance.

They have consistently delighted audiences with their high energy spin on the rich dance tradition, which includes fast paced music, traditional steps and patterns and a heavy-syncopated, uniform style and colorful costumes. TNN’s “Dancing USA” spotlighted their performance at the former Gilley’s in Pasadena.

Rhythm Cloggers is an active member of The Texas Clogging Council, and a member of the local Houston Square & Round Dance Council. Many of its members have served and are still serving in many important positions on the Texas Clogging Council. Rhythm Cloggers has promoted the advancement of clogging through the Texas Clogging Council as well as through its own organization.

Rhythm Cloggers is a fun-loving, foot stomping, clogging dance team dedicated to promoting good wholesome entertainment for the whole family. They dance to a wide variety of music from Bluegrass to Techno. From ethnic dance festivals, Alamodome, Astrodome, world fairs, church bazaars, Astroworld to rodeos, Rhythm Cloggers is carrying on the exciting tradition of this marvelous American folk dance. This exciting group is made up of local people who love to entertain and it shows!
