Our Relationship with Trees

We as humans have an ongoing reliance on and reverence for trees. They offer beauty, buffer sounds, anchor the soil, and shield us from the elements. They provide fruit and nuts, and materials for creating fire and for building.

Throughout history, we have regarded trees as both essential natural element and spiritual entity. We have created many myths around them, and they have inspired painters and poets with their majesty.

In the woods we return to reason and faith.
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
