CONSULTANT – Provide analysis, design, implementation and testing to extend functionality of an existing software application. Invented a solid algorithm to solve complex allocation problems. Designed and implemented a test suite to ensure continuing functionality. Documented software and test suite.

Altra Software Services, Inc./Unified Information, Inc., Kirkland, Washington

1995 to 2001

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER - Performed a wide range of programming and development functions for this developer of electric power industry-related applications. Activities ranged from team lead on new projects to debugging and upgrading existing products. Worked closely with customers and teammates to identify solutions. Worked both independently and as part of cross-functional teams in development activities. Regularly served as in-house resource on various development tools and code issues. Utilized Mathematics expertise in creating/simplifying algorithms. Representative projects included:

Technical Lead - California ISO Gateway: Led the technical effort which designed, developed, and implemented a major communications package for regional and national energy trading companies doing business in California. Major customers included Seattle City Light, Pacific Gas & Electric, and Southern Cal Edison. Designed system to comply with complex specifications created by the newly-created Independent System Operator (ISO), California's official regulatory body. Successfully delivered a flexible and reliable tool used by over half the wholesale electrical power market in the state.

Provided extensive follow through and customer service to assure reliability and address the rapidly changing regulatory environment, requiring almost immediate program updates. Developed reputation for providing quality software, often succeeding where other vendors had failed. Regularly consulted by ISO as a subject matter expert.

Core Database Infrastructure Redesign: Redesigned and modified the core database system that implemented an object oriented data model within a SQL relational database. Improved functionality to include full inheritance of multiple levels of attributes and enable users to modify data structure.
