Some Aspects on In Vitro Fertilization
There
is free choice, there is the possibility of discovering never ending knowledge
through the pursuit of Art and Science and the drive of business enterprise.
There is the viability of altering human nature itself to fit into the pattern
of the times for the general well-being of the human race, and there is
justifiably a standard morality for valid guidance set down by Divine law.
Medical technology is making great
strides in physical and mental health care for the improvement of the human
condition, and among these moral moves are some that remain questionable. Most
likely, ethics will imply that in the area of procreation, aided conception in
a test-tube is laudable when the ensuing embryo is inserted in the natural mother’s
womb for development. Science corrects the disability to conceive, and parents
can have the child they so desire with joy.
However, when a baby must take growth as
an embryo with ovum from the natural mother which is inserted in another’s womb
for termination, technology develops a situation where mother and child are separated for a nine-month period of meaningful growth. The gain is absolute, but so is the loss. In true morality, to sever the ties of mother and child in the womb can be akin to loss on both sides. Harmful feelings may get locked in the back room, and can make periodic visits, but never go away. Much will depend on character and adjustment.
Biologically and spiritually, the same
pattern of conception and birth has been carried on for presumably a billion
years; perhaps it can take another billion years for humankind to grow used to
that nine-month period of loss until the process becomes natural, or it can take
a moment as human nature can be frightfully changeable.
Humankind is not equal in expertise with
Nature’s special blue print for creation. If everyone had the same never ending
questions and answers required for human betterment, the enlightenment brought
on by argument, perseverance and camaraderie would grow dim in the absence of
discussion. The joy of discovery and learning would be gone. Uses from
discovering or learning can lead to wonderful or unfortunate results. Choice
and chance are privileges of humankind and can play a big role for better or
worse, by interfering in the sacredness of creation. It is perhaps unwise to
enforce an unnatural speed or quickness in growth at the ovum level.
The process includes fertility injections
given to stimulate the development of eggs, to daily monitor the ripening for
retrieval to be used or united with sperm by means of in-vitro fertilization
for the making of an embryo. It can require an adjustment that Mother Nature
then provides, correcting or filling in with the natural process. This
connection with the combined expertise of biological science, technology, and
Mother Nature in creating a child may or may not prove to be healthy for the
newborn.
It
has been said that stem-cells from human tissue, such as blood or fat, may be
used for healing the body. It is known that the immune system can and does keep
human tissue healthy. The body can be self-healing. Those who do not have the
advantages of orthodox medical care do get better. The creative force rules
with justice, and in spite of a weakness coming from heredity, the human body
is provided with the potential for attaining wholeness.
Thought
is innate. It sets the brain in motion and awareness. It connects with the
immune system for healing physical and mental disorders. In the natural world,
living matter supports living matter spiritually and biologically. It can be
deemed fair that stem-cells coming from inert embryos or from human tissue, and
being used and proven to provide wellness, and that achievement and joy which
follows, is unquestionably acceptable. Though restoration arrives with painful
adjustments, great benefits have come from the direction of choice and chance.
Know when to stop at success and be a winner!
