Study days

At the moment there are no firm dates for upcoming study days but we are considering running some days in late 2005 or early 2006. We are considering jointly running groups for therapists, run with the HIV Physiotherapy Special Interest Group from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. In the past we have run days catering for all levels but are considering running the two following courses in future:

Introduction to HIV practice for therapists - this would be aimed at occupational therapists and physiotherapists who are interested in developing their knowledge of illnesses, treatments and approaches with people with HIV. Course content would include information on epidemiology, transmission, medical management / pharmacological treatments, presentations and illnesses and would include separate workshops for working with specific areas such as neurological impairment, developmental paediatrics, community practice / social issues and mental health. Previous knowledge would not be necessary and interested students and related disciplines would be welcome to enquire about attendance. Teaching would be primarily lecture / tutorial style. Register your interest in such an upcoming course by emailing Will Chegwidden at St. Bartholomew's in London.

Study day for HIV Therapists - aimed at occupational and physio-therapists already working with people with HIV, and will assume some prior knowledge. This would be a study day to examine "hot topics" and share elements of good practice across the UK. Sessions would take the form of discussion groups and fora and could be tailored to the interest areas prior to the day. Register your interest in such an upcoming course by emailing Will Chegwidden at St. Bartholomew's in London.

Meetings

The group has met every six to eight weeks for a number of years. Purposes of the meetings include:

bulletsharing best practice
bulletproviding support and peer review opportunities
bulletnetworking
bulletdeveloping new ideas
bulletplanning strategies at a national and local level to promote HIV practice issues
bulletplanning study days and education sessions
bulletmonitoring HIV in the OT curriculum in the UK

We have regular attendees from acute care, rehabilitation, community teams and paediatrics.

Meetings take place on Tuesday afternoons. Until now meetings have primarily been based in London however the group is amenable to meetings outside of London - offers welcome!

Following our first joint meeting with the HIV Physiotherapy Special Interest Group from the Chartered Society of Physiotherpists in February 2005, we have decided to have every other meeting jointly with this group, and to introduce a rolling programme of education / teaching / information sharing.

We welcome interested therapists working in an appropriate area to these meetings however we ask that you contact the group first to discuss, not the least because the dates and venues below are subject to change at short notice.
