Basic Polar Bear Information - good for younger students

Animals of the Arctic - This site is designed by ThinkQuest, which consists of a network of students, who work together in teams to publish their research as an educational web site for peers and classrooms around the world.  This site has some good basic information about polar bears.

Enchanted Learning - An amazing site with a wide variety of resources from biomes, geography, arts and crafts to animal printouts, jokes and dictionaries.  This site is a wealth of information.

Fuzzy Photo - A site about bears designed by Nature photographer/artist Wayne Boucher.  There is some good basic information about polar bears.  There is also a free polar bear desktop theme for your computer.

Kidzone - Another site with good basic information and pictures. It also includes links for polar bear puzzles, a polar bear craft and a colouring page.

Gander Academy's Website - A great resource page which has lesson plans, activities and links about polar bears.  While this information is fairly straightforward already, there is a polar bear unit geared toward primary students!
 

Websites with more in-depth information - good for the older students

A - Z Teacher Stuff - This site contains many links to other polar animal sites.  Links include factual pages, activities pages, as well as a list of books that may be of interest.

Bear Planet -  A website that has information about all kinds of bears, including the polar bear! 

Canadian Wildlife Services -  Learn all about the polar bear from the Canadian Wildlife Services. The CWS website is where you’ll find in-depth descriptions of wildlife, discussions on issues, actions that you can take to help wildlife, and educational materials that teachers and group leaders can use. 

Churchill Northern Studies Centre -  Based in Churchill, Manitoba, the CNSC was established to facilitate Arctic research and education.  Their website not only discusses the research they conduct, but also the local wildlife, plants and history.  Churchill is considered to be the polar bear capital of the world.

ESpecies Fact Sheets - Electronic fact sheets on over 50 species of animals from around the world.

National Geographic - This user-friendly site has "creature features", where different species of animals are discussed.  Using fun facts, videos, audio and maps, kids can learn all about polar bears here.  They can even e-mail a polar bear postcard or test their knowledge with a brain teaser!

Nature, Great White Bear - This site is a link off of the PBS home page.  This page describes the behaviour of the polar bear, how they survive in the Arctic and the challenges of studying polar bears in their freezing habitat.  You can also search the video database and watch clips from the Nature archives.

Polar Bears International - This site has many links to common questions about polar bears such as communication, home range, hibernation facts, polar bear cubs, polar bear fur and much, much more, including a wonderful photo gallery.  You can also keep up with current research and threats to polar bears.

SeaWorld Education Department Resource - As part of the Sea World/Busch Gardens Education Series, this site provides an extensive animal information database, which, of course, includes the polar bear.

World Wildlife Foundation -  A great site with descriptions of polar bears, their habitat, behaviour, family, diet and threats that are facing the polar bear, such as climate change.  There is also a wonderful photo gallery along with video clips.

Zoological Society of San Diego - A site with some good information about polar bears as well as audio clips and a polar bear cam!!
 

Activities, Crafts and Songs

Education World - A lesson plan submitted by an elementary teacher in Missouri teaches students about camouflage as they study polar bears.

A - Z Teacher's Stuff - This link has a polar bear poem, a song, some polar bear templates for various activities and other hands on activities.  Since they are all different pages, a link has been created to the home page and you can use the search function to find any polar bear related activities.
